Apollo Bay 2009 – Music And Much More

More than just another music fest in a gorgeous location, the Apollo Bay Music Festival is a true celebration of arts, culture, community and diversity.

Jazz, world, folk, country, rock, reggae, blues, theatre, film, comedy, street performers, workshops, visual arts and poetry - the Apollo Bay Music Festival has something for everyone.

Caroline Moore, Festival Director says “The 2009 Festival is a wonderful eclectic mix of overwhelming talent, both established and emerging, Australian and International and I am extremely excited about some of the collaborations we will see take place over the weekend.”

Featuring some of Australia’s finest artists, some of the performances audiences can look forward to are:

Paul Grabowsky with the Australian Art Orchestra, performing the Victorian premiere performance of Crossing Roper Bar with Wagilak Gujarra/Nyilapidgi musicians from Nagukrr; Karma County & Jimmy Little presenting a tenth anniversary celebration performance of songs from the groundbreaking album Messenger; the ultra smooth stylings of Tex Perkins and His Ladyboyz; the eternally cool Stephen Cummings; the new project from Joe Camilleri & Nicky Bomba - Limestone; the internationally renowned master of Sikh and world music Dya Singh; performances from The Vasco Era; The Verses and Felicity Urquhart plus more than 60 other outstanding acts from across the country.

On the international front the Festival is thrilled to be presenting Robyn Hitchock and the Venus 3, featuring REM’s Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey and Bill Rielfin. Hitchcock is one of the UK’s most regarded and significant performers, and combined with the Venus 3, they are without a doubt one of the most sophisticated and incredible ‘garage’ bands around. They will also launch their new CD “Goodnight Oslo” at the Festival.

Also hailing from across the seas are the Alan Kelly Quartet (IRE) and a showcase of Canada’s finest including April Verch, David Francey and The Undesirables.

AND then .....

Comedy arrives in the form of the incomparable Flacco and The Sandman; the acclaimed theatre piece The Tank by Stephen Thomas & Mick Thomas comes to Apollo Bay for the first time; filmmaker Mick Sowry presents his award winning film Musica Surfica and a special concert Celebrating the Songs of Tom Waits featuring Karma County, Nick Barker, King Marong & Afro Mandinko, Kate Rowe, The Undesirables, David Ross McDonald, Gemma Turvey and more promises to be a standout event of the weekend.

Peter Fillmore, Apollo Bay Music Festival President says: “The Festival is a true reflection of the overall community of Apollo Bay, vibrant and exciting, and in 2009, our 17th year, we are presenting some incredible acts from across Australia and the world, we are also proud to announce that recently the festival received the Powercor Award for most outstanding event within the region”
